About GEOSAN
GEOSAN LLC was founded in 1996 and became the premier domestic provider of ground and airborne geophysical surveys and aerial geospatial solutions in Mongolia. We've grown steadily ever since, known for the latest technology, innovative products and high-quality professional work that meets international quality and safety standards.
Our team is recognised by clients for technical expertise in geophysics, geodesy, geology and aviation. That combination — surveyors, scientists and pilots under one roof — is what lets us run a project end to end, from flight planning to interpreted data.
From our first magnetic survey in 1998 we have grown the capability to conduct nearly the entire range of ground and airborne surveys available today, in Mongolia and across Asia.
Established by businessman Ikhbayar Gombosuren.
Completed first contracts near the Oyu Tolgoi and Gatsuurt deposits for BHP Billiton, using a single magnetic system.
Started fixed-wing airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys with an industry-standard acquisition system and a brand-new, USA-built Cessna Caravan 208B.
Began aerial photogrammetric surveying and mapping with a second Cessna Caravan and a Microsoft UltraCamXP wide-angle digital camera.
Introduced air charter services with a new Cessna Caravan 208B, serving mining, drilling and tourism clients, private individuals and medical evacuation providers.
Over 70 airborne geophysical projects in Mongolia, plus IP and magnetic surveys for clients in Myanmar, Laos, Inner Mongolia and China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
Three decades of work in some of the world's most demanding terrain requires more than equipment; it requires people who know the ground, the regulation, and the science.
Ikhbayar Gombosuren
Founder & First Chairman
A geologist by training, Ikhbayar founded GEOSAN in 1996 with a single magnetic survey crew. Over three decades he led the company's expansion from geological surveying into airborne geophysics, aerial mapping, charter aviation and airport management, building it into Mongolia's foremost multi-discipline geoscience and aviation operator.
Esentsengel Sukhee
Chairman of the Board
Currently serves as Chairman of the Board of GEOSAN, providing strategic oversight and governance as the company continues to expand its geoscience and aviation operations.
Algirmaa Ikhbayar
Chief Executive Officer
Algirmaa holds a degree in theoretical economics from Renmin University of China in Beijing. She joined GEOSAN in 2012 and served as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the company's financial strategy through a period of significant fleet and capability growth, before becoming CEO in 2022.
Bat-Erdene Gombosuren
General Director & Advisor
A geologist who joined GEOSAN in 2002, Bat-Erdene rose through the organisation to serve as CEO before transitioning to his current role as General Director and Advisor, bringing over two decades of operational and technical leadership to the company.
Munkhjargal Narmandakh
Chief Operating Officer
Munkhjargal graduated in aircraft engineering from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST). As COO he oversees GEOSAN's flight operations, field logistics and maintenance programmes across the fixed-wing and rotary-wing fleet.
Tsedendamba Oyunbuyan
Director of Survey & Exploration
Leads GEOSAN's geophysical and geological survey operations, overseeing project design, data acquisition and quality control from initial flight planning through to final interpreted deliverables.
Every discipline we operate under carries its own regulatory obligation. We hold the certifications required to work across aviation operations, airborne maintenance and geo-professional surveying in Mongolia.
MCAA Part 145 — Maintenance Organisation
Licensed by the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. Covers our Cessna Grand Caravan 208B fleet and Airbus H145 helicopters.
MCAA Air Operator Certificate (AOC)
Authorises GEOSAN to conduct commercial air transport operations in Mongolia, including charter, cargo and survey flights under MCAA operational safety regulations.
Airport Management Authorisation — Tavan Tolgoi
Appointed operator of Tavan Tolgoi Airport, responsible for aerodrome operations, ground handling, aeronavigation services and apron management under MCAA oversight.
Geo-Professional Survey Licences
Registered with relevant Mongolian authorities to conduct airborne and ground geophysical surveys and aerial photogrammetric mapping, including cadastral and topographic work at national scale.
In addition, mineral evaluation and technical services will be performed in accordance with the requirements of the CRIRSCO program for listing on international stock exchanges.
Our Mission
Our Vision
No project outcome justifies cutting corners on safety.
We do not ship data we would not stake our reputation on.
We invest in our Mongolian engineers and crew through training, mentoring and fair career progression.
We reinvest in new equipment and techniques so our clients always have access to the best available method.
The team behind the data
We own our aircraft and instruments and employ our own surveyors, geophysicists and pilots, with no subcontracted links in the chain to slow a project down or add risk.
Three decades of opening field aerodromes across the Gobi, mountains and steppe means we plan for the terrain other operators turn down.
Every dataset is quality-controlled in the field and reprocessed against international standards before it reaches your team.
Fixed-price quotes scoped to your target and timeline, with no hidden mobilisation costs once a block or charter is confirmed.
Many of our clients — including BHP Billiton on our first 1998 contracts — have returned to us across multiple projects and years.
Beyond Mongolia, our crews have completed survey work in Myanmar, Laos, Inner Mongolia, and China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
Send us the block, the corridor or the deployment. We'll come back with a flight plan and a proposal.
